The Temporary Disposal Site (LPS) located on Jalan Kaji Raya, Petojo Utara, Gambir, Central Jakarta will be permanently closed starting October 1.
Dirty and disturbing
Gambir District's Head Unit of Environment, Mumuh Mulyana said the LPS on Jalan Kaji Raya, precisely located in RT 02/08 Petojo Utara, is considered unsuitable and disrupts the comfort of the residential environment of local residents.
Ketapang TPS 3R Processes 13 Tons of Waste from Duri Pulo and Petojo Utara"The position of the LPS which is intended for the waste disposal of residents of RW 07 and 08 is not appropriate because it is at the end where Jalan Kaji Raya meets the residential access alley, so it looks dirty and disturbing," he said, Friday (9/25).
He added that the environment along Jalan Kaji looked clean, but the open LPS was often used as a target for illegal garbage dumping.
"So, local residents and those from outside RW 08 Petojo Utara often throw rubbish at the location, so it was decided to close it," he added.
Mumuh explained that his team, along with urban village officials and RT and RW 07 and 08 administrators, had conducted socialization twice before deciding to close the Jalan Kaji LPS on October 1. Residents of RW 07 and 08 Petojo Utara's waste will also be disposed of directly at the Ketapang TPS 3R.
"Officers will pick up trash directly from homes in two neighborhood units (RW) in Petojo Utara. We hope residents have already sorted inorganic and organic waste at the source to facilitate the reduction process at the Ketapang 3R TPS," he explained.
According to him, the volume of waste produced by residents of RW 07 and 08 Petojo Utara at LPS Jalan Kaji is around 15 carts every day.
"After the LPS on Jalan Kaji is closed, we will organize it by placing plant pots and banners prohibiting littering and installing CCTV around the location," he admitted.
